John's Great Big Book of Integers

Chapter 1: Grade 7 Review of Integers
I only finish Grade 6. I don't know this stuff.

Chapter 2:Multiplying Integers

Chapter 3: Dividing Integers

Partative Division: How many groups of 2 are in 6? or How many 2's go into 6?

Quotative Division: sharing with groups

Multiplicative Inverse can help you solve 6/(-2) by switching the number around when checking the answer. Like this: the answer in 6/(-2) is -3 so you use multiplicative inverse to check if your answer is right.
6/(-3)= -3.

Sign Rule:

Even= When you have an even number of negative factors the product is POSITIVE.
Odd= When you have an odd number of negative factors the product is NEGATIVE.

6/2= +3 (it's positive because both factors are positive)
-6/(-2)= +3 (it's positive because there is an even number of negative factors)
(-6)/2= -3 (it's negative because there is an odd number of negative factors)
6/(-2)= -3 (it's negative because there is an odd number of negative factors)

Chapter 4: Order of Operations with Integers

BEDMAS [square brackets around division/multiplication]

eg. [(+5) x (-3)] + (-6) ÷ (+3)=
-15 +[(-6) ÷ (+3)]=
-15 + -2 = -17

John's Term 2 Reflection

This term we learned about Surface Area, Percents, and Volume. I think I did
well on Volume. Volume is a little bit easy. Percent is
difficult because for me it’s hard to understand. This term I think that my marks go down because Im not really listening to you(Mr. H).

Ill try my best to do better in the test tomorrow.

John's Final Percent Post

Percent means out of 100, A fractional percent is a percent that has part of a percent, for example, 1/2%, 0.55%, and 7.6%. All percents can be represented as a fraction or decimal. To find the percent of a number, you first write the percent as a fraction then divide the numerator by the denominator then multiply by 100. Percents can be used in equation like finding the discount of a price or adding or subtracting taxes.

John's Final Percent Post

Chapter 4 Understanding Percent

4.1 Representing Percent
-Percent means out of 100
-Another name for hundred
Ex. 65 means out of 100 or 65/100 or 0.65

4.2 Fraction, Decimal, Percents
-Fraction, decimals, and percents can be used to represent numbers in various situations
-Percents can be written as fractions and as decimals
Ex. 1/2 = 50% or 0.50

4.3 Percent of a Number
-You can use mental math strategies such as halving, doubling, and dividing by ten to find the percents of some numbers
-To calculate the percents of a number, write the percents as a decimal then multiply by the number
Ex. 12 1/2 of 50 = o.125 x 50 = 6.25%

4.4 Combining Percents
-Percents can be combined by adding to solve problems. 5% + 7% = 12%
-To calculate the increase in a number
-You can add the combined percent amount to the original numbers
Ex. 12% of 100 = 0.12 x 100 = 12

John's Pay it Forward

Part 1
Pay it Forward is a movie about a boy named Trevor, an 11 year old boy who tries to change the world by a act of kindness after an assignment by his social studies teacher, Mr. Simonet. His plan is to do something nice for three people(Gerry, Mr. Simonet and Alex). The three people should Pay it Forward to another three people of their choice and so on. At the end Trevor died since that the "Pay it Forward" movement grew really big as thousands of people paid respect to Trevor who started this movement.

Part 2
My Pay it Forward act of kindness was carrying 3 boxes of canned goods of a  female stranger in Cumberland. I choose this activity cause it is easier than the other ideas that I think off. I did it last Sunday, December  19th around 10:00 am.

Part 3
It was fun and exciting cause its my first time helping a stranger in Canada. The reaction of the lady was shocking cause she was about to shout but I stopped her and I told her I told her that im paying it forward and please pass it on. And the lady just kept quite and gave her three boxes of canned goods to me to carry to her room.

Part 4
Paying it Forward is great it helps a person life to change and especially the world to make a difference in a small way. I hope this will continue until the next generation.

Sorry I forgot to take a picture of my "Pay it Forward" cause I forgot to bring my camera with me.

John's Sesame Street Video Post

Ratio

Two-Term Ratio:
-Compares different parts of a group to each other.
-Compares two quantities measured in the same units.
 Ex. A:B, 4:5, 5 to 4

Three-Term Ratio:
-Compares one part of a group to the whole gruop.
-Compares three quantitie measured in the same units.
Ex. A:B:C, 4:5:6, 6 to 5 to 4

Rates:
-Compares two quantities measured in different units.
-Unit Rate-a rate in which the second term is one.
-Unit Price-a unit rate used when shopping.
Ex.1.89L/$549

Proportional Reasoning:
-A relationship that says that two ratio or two rates are equal
Ex. use it to find 15 chickens if 5 costs $0.10
5 / $0.10 = 15 / $x ; x= $0.30 ( multiply by 3)

John's Math Profile

Hi my name is John. I am a math student in grade 8. My favorite subject is Math. I may not the smartest student in 8-14 but I'm the 5th hardworking student in class especially in math cause i love to use the numbers in many different ways to solve problems or questions.

In Grade 6 I really like the word problems. I remember one time the answer for the question is in the question itself. This year ill try my best to past the grade 8 Math.

Now in Grade 8. Ill try to finish all the homework and school work even if it is hard to past and advance to Grade 9.
