Raelynn's 2minutes Reflection
2. The changes that my group and I did were our voices because it wasn't consistent and one of our group member couldn't record her voice on that day since she was busy. So we tried to changed the speed and quality of our voices. We also changed some pictures because it doesn't look like it was taken from Winnipeg. Also, we had to interview an expert and we needed pictures for evidence to show on how we made a difference. The comments helped our video improve a lot.
3. We checked out some sites for someone to help us instead of meeting him in person. One of the important facts were as long there have been people, there are more people that has less basic needs and wants. There are poor people in every country in the world and Winnipeg is the child poverty capital in Canada, more children are poor as well as their mothers. Winnipeg has no specific date to when poverty happened.
5. Our greatest success in the 2 minutes project was getting it done on time. We also had a chance to show evidence of making a difference before the due date. The skills that I would use in the future are good making movie skills. It helps on which song fits to the picture. And the time length - not too fast or not too slow.
6. While making the movie, the most frustrating part was finding pictures. Most of the pictures are from Africa, Afghanistan and other countries besides Winnipeg. We searched through every website to find that our teacher recommended. The only pictures we could find are in Canada, which Winnipeg is a part of. We had to find an expert to interview us so we can get some information for our topic and showing evidence by taking pictures of us making a difference. We were also thinking on what big question we can put on the video. It took us a while to think before the due date for our 2 minutes.
7. The 2 minutes project is important for the grade 8 students because it helps you learn on how to make a difference and what is happening in the world today. It helps you understand the problems in life and let others know this too. Making a difference is a good thing to do. It could be useful for helping out families and friends.
8. How I would make a difference in the future is to tell others that every kid deserves a chance to have something they need and not leaving them alone suffering from hunger and pain. Take action. Also, I can ask my family to donate foods or clothing that we don't necessarily need in Siloam Mission and Winnipeg Harvest. I'll also spread the word so they'll know.

Constant - The integer in an algebraic equation or expression.

Raelynn's Term 2 Reflection
What I did well on term two was the formulas of rectangular prisms and the cylinder. I enjoyed learning about this unit, especially finding out the volume of those three shaped prisms. I did well on finishing my blog posts on time with great effort. I also had a great improvement on my quizzes and tests.
What I had struggled through term two was a bit of the triangular prisms. I’m not sure why, but probably the formula that confuses me and calculating the wrong number of it. (eg. triangle multiply by the rectangle when it was supposed to be; triangle multiply by triangle; rectangle multiply rectangle) I also need to remember to draw and label the net properly for my quizzes and tests to achieve a better mark. Overall I had done well.
What I need to improve on the next term is probably not to procrastinate on my homework that our teacher assigns us to. I know I had to remind myself countless of times - but it’s kind of like a habit. I’ll try not to do that again. That’s probably one thing I need to focus on. Another thing that I have to improve on is to boost up a better mark on my quizzes and tests. I'm still not very satisfied so I am trying my best to achieve higher marks next term. Also I need to pay more attention and discuss more when we are solving a problem in class.
For the surface area and the volume, I learned how to multiply the area of the base and the height. I also had learned the formulas to find the answer to the question. The formulas help me a lot to understand the topic and I admit it was pretty easy for me. For percents I learned how to convert them into fractions. We used a ratio chart to solve the question. Next term, I'll try my best to achieve a better mark on math.

Raelynn's Great Big Book Of Integers
Integers are natural numbers (positive or negative) or zero.

Brackets are like training wheels.
For example; (-2) + 5 + (-7)
A zero pair are any of the same number that has a positive and a negative that will equal to zero. For example: -2+2 = 0
Examples of Standard forms:
4-5+6=5
-5-6=
4-5-7=
Questions and Answers:
-3-(-7)=4

-3-7=-10

3-7=-4

3+7=10

-3+7=4

The great Big Book of Integers Chapter 2:
(+2)x(+3)= +6
(+2)x(-3)= -6

(-2)x(+3)=
-6(-2)x(-3)= +6

Chapter 3; Dividing Integers
Partitive Division is to divide something into parts. An example for it is;

Sign Rule:
- The quotient of two integers with the same sign is: positive when even amount of "-" signs.
- The quotient of two integers with different signs is: add number of "-" means negative.
Quotative Division involves taking a set of size a and forming groups. (Sharing with groups)
eg.

Multiplicative Inverse to solve 6 ÷(-2)=;

Chapter 4; Order of Operations with Integers
We solve this using B.E.D.M.A.S. (brackets, exponents, division, multiplication, addition, and subtraction)
(+5)x(-3)+(-6)÷(+3)=

Answer:
Differences: The surface area of a prism is that it is rectangular. It has 6 faces. A cylinder has a total of three surfaces: a top, bottom, and middle. The top and bottom, which are circles.
Similarities: They both have nets to identify the answer. They are also easy to visualize.

Representing percents - Means out of 100. It is another name for hundredths.
eg. 65%= 65 out of 100, 65/100 or 0.65.
Fractional Percent - A percent that includes a portion of a percent.
eg. 7 3/8 or 4.5%.
Fractions, Decimals And percents - A percent that includes a portion of a percent.
eg. 7 3/8 or 4.5%.
Fractions, decimals and percents can be used to represent numbers in many different situations. Percents can be written as fractions and decimals.
eg. 1/2 = 0.5%. 150% = 150/100, 1.5 or 1 1/2.
You can use mental math strategies like halving, doubling and dividing to find the % of some numbers. 12 1/2% of 50= 1.125 x 50= 6.25.
Percents can also be combined by adding to solve problems. 5%+7%=12%
Percent of a Number - You can use mental math strategies such as halving, doubling, and dividing by ten to find the percent of some numbers. To calculate the percent of a number, write the percent as a decimal then multiply by the number 12 1/2= 12.5% = 0.125
12 1/2% of 50 = 0.125x5o= 6.25
Combining Percents
* percents can be combined by adding to solve problems 5%+7%=12%
* to calculate the increase in a number
* you can add the combined percent amount to the original percent
* you can multiply the original number by a single percent greater than 100
* percents of percents can be used to determine amounts that result from consecutive increases or decreases.

Raelynn's Pay it Foward
(Movie Summary)
"Pay it Forward" is about a 12 year old boy named Trevor, who was given an assignment from Mr. Simonet (a social studies teacher) to make a difference in peoples' lives by helping them. You have to help 3 people and you don't expect anything back. It keeps going by helping three other people and so on. Trevor first helps a homeless man, but it didn't turn out very well until he asked the lady to have coffee with him. Later on, Trevor helps Mr. Simonet by planning a date with his mom - but it didn't work out either until at the end. Near at the end, Trevor gets stabbed while defending his friend by the bullies who were hurting him. He sadly passed away. But the movement of the "Pay It Forward" was sucessful as a large number of people who gathered around Trevor's house - placing candles and flowers in front of his yard as a remembrance.
Part 2
What was your Pay It Forward act of kindness?
My Pay it Forward act of kindness was to help my aunt shovel her backyard.
Why did you choose this activity?
I chose this activity because I've notice that she's really busy working. She told me her job is pretty tiring and she doesn't have time to shovel the snow. I didn't want her to get exhausted. So I thought shoveling her backyard would be a nice idea.
Who did you help?
I helped my aunt.
What did you do?
I helped her by shoveling the snow.
When did you do you act of kindness?
I started this at December 19, 2010. Afternoon.
Part 3
My act of kindness went pretty well after shoveling. It was successful after doing that. But it was abit tiring - I managed to get going though.
What Happened?
I helped shovel my aunt's backyard.
How did you feel?
I felt great. I'm pretty satisfied after doing this.
How did the person or people react?
My aunt was very thankful for me that I shoveled her backyard. So it would be less frustrating for her to do this by herself after working in her job. I gladly said "You're Welcome" and we both smiled. So after that I went back home.
Did you ask the person or people to "Pay It Forward"?
Yes, I asked her to "Pay It Forward". I explained why. So she said "Okay, sure."
How did they react to your request?
She was pretty surprised while I was discussing her about this favor. I think I'm the first person to help out. I'm not sure about her kids though but I'm sure that she would be very happy.

Why is the idea of "Pay it Forward" important?
The idea of "Pay it Forward" was important because there's a chance for us to help make a difference in someone's life by helping them. Even a little thing can make a difference in peoples' lives. At least you tried to help out by showing your act of kindness.
Has your act of kindness made a difference?
I am not sure. It depends on the owner. At least I tried to "Pay it Forward".

It will be 5.9/6 far up the wall.

Raelynn's Math Profile
Last year, I enjoyed learning about ordering the operations (BEDMAS). At first, it was sort of hard for me and I didn't really understand it well but when we start working more on that unit I began to learn and understand what it means and what you are supposed to do. One of the units that I struggled was adding and subtracting mixed numbers (fractions). Learning how to solve your question by playing or switching the numbers to find your answer. This year, I am going to ask questions if I don't get what we are supposed to do, check over my notes to remember what we learned for math and focus more in class to help myself to become a better student.
Now that I'm in grade 8, I will listen carefully when we are learning something new on math and ask questions if I don't know anything. Right now I'm not having trouble on math but I'm trying my best to become a better student and be prepared for more math problems in grade 9. This year, I'd like to learn about anything on math. Whether it's hard or easy.
Last year in grade 7, I did some math blogs. My favorite blogs from last year was Subtracting Integers and Divisibility. One of them was about subtracting the chip from the second number. For example, (-5) - (-3) = -2. Since there are 5 negative chips you subtract 3 negative chips to equal negative 2. The other one was about when a number can be divided by another number with no remainder. Blogging helped me alot last year because it helps me to become a better learner and what to understand on so it'll be easy for me, and if I forget anything what we learned in class I can always go on the math blog to remember so I can refresh my mind. It also helps me when my classmates comment what I did well and what to improve on my post. This year, I would like to play math games on the computer to extend my knowledge and maybe do more blogging.
