11. The area of Canada is approximately 9 984 670 km². Thearea of Manitoba is about 6 ½% of the area of Canada. What is the area of Manitoba to the nearest square kilometre?

a) The answer is 6000. .
b) The answer is 0.75. How I got the answer, is that I used a ratio table to do this. So, here is my work: c) The answer is 0.04. Once again, used a ratio table.
4. Use mental math to find the following:
a) 20% of 60 b) 250% of 400 c) 10 1/2% of 100
(Sorry if there isn't any pictures of how I showed my work. I tried to put up more, but when I kept on moving them around, the layout will mess up and I eventually end up deleting the picture when I press enter. I'm pretty sure you guys can figure how you can get these numbers by yourselves.)

8. The original price of a jacket was $84.00. A store manager marked the price down by 25 1/2%. By how much was the price reduced?
The price has been reduced by $21.42. How I got this answer, is that I used a ratio table to make life easier. I divided 100 by 100, to get 1, and then multiplied it by 25.5. I did the same exact thing, only, I divided 84 by 100, which gave me 0.84. Finally, when I multiplied it by 25.5, it gave me 21.42.

7. Estimate the following answers, then calculate. Show your thinking.

b) About 5.6% of Canadians have type 2 diabetes. If Canada's population is 32 million, about how many Canadians have this condition? Estimate: 1 600 000 Calculation: 1 792 000
c) The 4900-seat hockey arena was 63% full. How many people were at the game? Estimate: 3000 Calculation: 3087
8. The Nile River is about 209% the length of the Yukon River. If the Yukon River is 3168 km, how long is the Nile River (to the nearest km)? 6621 km
Over five years, the circulation of a magazine increased from 25000 copies to 150000 copies. What percent is the new circulation of the circulation from five years ago? What is this percent as a decimal and a fraction?
For this problem, we would want to use the math information given to us:
-5 years of circulation
-25000 copies
-150000 copies
Fraction out of 1oo.
OF means the denominator of the fraction.
Now, to solve this problem, we are going to use proportion.

Jordon is correct. When converting a decimal to a percent you multiply the decimal by 100 or move it up 2 place values. 0.003x100=0.3
I'm not all that sure about this one, but yes they can be both correct. Let's pretend the other team scored a total of 10 points. 500% of 10 would be 50. 5 times as many would also be 50. (Check out Mark873's scribe. He has the same answer, but he explained it differently.)

Answer: The number 250% does not have the same value as the other three because if you convert 12/5, 2.4 and 60/25 into a percent. They have the same answer which is 240%.
12 divided by 5=2.4x100=240% 2.4x100=240% 60 divided by 25=2.4x100=240%
