Percent means out of 100. It is another name for hundredths. eg. 65%= 65 out of 100, 65/100 or 0.65. A Fractional Percent is a percent that includes a portion of a percent. eg. 7 3/8 or 4.5%. Fractions, decimals and percents can be used to represent numbers in many different situations. Percents can also be combined by adding to solve problems.

This is my percent video. I'm sorry that I got the answer for the first question wrong. I put ten percent as 1.009 instead of 1.099. My mistake.

4.3 Percent of a Number

- you can use mental math strategies such as halving, doubling, and dividing by ten to find the percent of some numbers

- to calculate the percent of a number, write the percent as a decimal then multiply by the number 12 1/2= 12.5% = 0.125
12 1/2% of 50 = 0.125x5o= 6.25

4.4 Combining Percents

- pecents can be combined by adding to solve problems 5%+7%=12%

- to calculate the increase in a number
_ you can add the combined percent amount to the original percent
_ you can multiply the original number by a single percent greater than 100

- percents of percents can be used to determine amounts that result from consecutive increases or decreases

In this unit we learned about percents. Percent means out of 100 s0 percents are always out of 100. We learned how to represent percents using 100 grids, you can convert percents into decimals or fractions, you can find a percent of a number, and you can combine percents to find things like the total cost of an item including tax.

4.1 Representing Percents

In this unit we learned how to represent percents using hundred grids. For example, if you have 30% you can represent this by shading in thirty squares in the hundred grid. Or if you have 250% your can represent this by shading in 2 hundred grids and fifty squares in another hundred grid. If you want to represent 0.25% or 1/4% you shade in part of one square and then have an arrow pointing to a square representing 1/4.



4.2 Fractions, Decimals, and Percents

We also learned how to represent percents by using decimals or fractions. We learned how to convert fractions into decimals and percents(EX: 1/4=0.25 or 25%) we learned how to convert decimals into percents and fractions (EX: 0.25x100=25% 1/4) and also converting percents into decimals and fractions.

4.3 Percent of a number

We learned how to find a percent of a number using mainly ratio tables. Another way to find a percent of a number is by turning the percent into a decimal by dividing it by 100 and then multiplying it by the number. For example: 65% of 250 0.65x250=162.5.


4.4 Combining Percents

We can combine percents when solving problems, such as finding the added tax to the cost of an item. It can be also used for finding discounts on prices. For example: GST + PST=12% tax, original price is $40 so $40x1.12=$44.80.

Percents are used in everyday life! It may not be essential as you think, but what if we didn't have taxes in our daily purchases then the businesses will become bankrupt. All your favorite brands like Ben & Jerry Ice Cream or Roxy!

Derec's Pay it Forward

Part 1

The movie Pay it Forward is a movie about an 11 years old boy named Trevor. HE tries to make a difference in the world for the better , after receiving an assignment given by his social studies teacher, Mr. Simonet. His plan is to do something nice for three peoples. Instead of paying Trevor back, the three people have to"pat it forward" to three other people each. It shows that the group made a big difference on people who receive the favor and to those who were paying it forward. By the end of the movie, the Pay it Forward group grew really big as more people paid their job to Trevor who died from a fight.

Part 2

Our pay it forward act was to donate a clothes and toys. We chose this activity because some people can't afford the stuff we have access to everyday. So the more we donate, They will have more access to stuff we have today. We helped all the people without clothes and toys. we did this project on December 19,2010

Part 3

Our act of kindness went very well. We Had to wait a few minutes outside for people to answer the door through. We felt very happy and feel like doing another project like this again. The person reacted maturely, and was smiling brightly. We were going to ask he people to "Pay it Forward" but we couldn't because the thrift store was going to close soon.

Part 4.

The "Pay it Forward" activity is important because lots of people without homes can't have anything wealthy people can . Our act of kindness helped people without clothes and toys. It even helped them celebrate Christmas because of the toys we gave hem. It also prepare them for the winter because we gave them clothing. They are lucky we gave them coats because winter is very cold.

Leea's Pay It Forwards

The Pay It Forward movie was about Trevor, an 11 year old boy who tries to make a change for the world. His Social Studies teacher Mr. Simonet had given the class an assignment. At the end of the movie, the "Pay It Forward" group had grew big as many more people paid their respect to Trevor who had died from a fight.

My Pay It Forward act of kindness was to shoveling my grandpa's front yard. I had chose this act of kindness because I thought it would be nice to shovel his. So I had help my grandpa and grandma. So I decided to shovel the snow they usualy walk. I had did my act of kindness in the afternoon of December 21 2010.

My act of kindness went just how i planned in the begin. I shoveled the snowout of the path way.The snow was very heavy but the shovel wasn't that heavy, it didn't talk that much effort. I felt warm in the inside after my grandpa smile and gave me a hug. My grandpa and grandma was really thankful of what I had done for them. I had ask my grandpa and grandma to pay it forward and they said "yes" they will do something good for someone.

The idea "Pay It Forward" is important because I think if people will do and act of kindness and it pay it forward, many lives will be different. Some people do good things because they want to recieve something in return. I feel my act of kindness made a difference.
