What are the top 10 items needed in Winnipeg Harvest?
The top 10 items Winnipeg Harvest needed the most are:
- Canned fish and poultry
- Canned fruit and vegetables
- Canned stew, chili,brown beans
- Peanut butter (light)
- Baby food
- Whole grain pasta/Whole wheat pasta
- Rice
- Canned spaghetti sauce or tomatoes
- Cereal
- Canned soup
When you volunteered what do you remember about your job?
When I volunteered in Winnipeg Harvest, what I remembered was how much food they had in their warehouse that they sort on what kind the item is and package them. They have lots of supply of different kinds of food in the warehouse. We volunteered to work on cleaning some bins that was used for recycling foods and sorting different kinds of food like pasta, rice and cereals. Its pretty hard cleaning the bins and those bins are big. Working in Winnipeg Harvest is really hard if not enough volunteers work. Winnipeg Harvest is really a big help to many people in Canada and it's worth it to work and help them work even though its a lot of work to do. I think I would volunteer again next time.

Winnipeg Harvest- Make Manitoba Hunger Free 8-14
What I learned about Winnipeg Harvest was that they depend on donations for food and that 56 000 people use Winnipeg Harvest every month. Manitoba also is the 3rd highest province that uses food banks. The goal that Winnipeg Harvest wants to achieve is to lock their doors and end their service. Another thing I learned that the volunteers that worked there have worked for 297 00 hours last year. Also, some of the volunteers I saw were challenged in a way.
2.Who does Winnipeg Harvest help?
Winnipeg Harvest helps people who can't get food. Winnipeg Harvest mostly help kids under the age of 18. Some of these people that use Winnipeg Harvest might also need moeny for food or medical help but can't afford it. Winnipeg Harvest gives out Basic Nutrition Kits to these people. A Basic Nutrition Kit is a kit that contains items from all the food groups like canned fruits. In one week, Winnipeg Harvest gives out 5, 500 Basic Nutrition Kits.
3.Where does Winnipeg Harvest get the food it supplies to its users?
Winnipeg Harvest gets their food they supply from donations, supermarkets like Superstore, Sobey's and from bakeries. Winnipeg Harvest also have donation bins at these supermarkets. Winnipeg Harvest also gets donations from schools. If Winnipeg Harvest stopped receiving these donations, they would run out of their food supplies in one week. That's why donating to Winnipeg Harvest is important.
4.What are the top 10 items needed in Winnipeg Harvest?
- Canned Soup
- Pasta
- Canned or Fresh Vegetables
- Baby Food
- Cereal
- Rice
- Loaves of Bread
- Canned poultry or fish
- Peanut Butter
- Canned beans
5.When you volunteered what do you remember about you job?
When I volunteered, I remember seeing all the food they had in their warehouse. When Kurt said that if they didn't receive any donations, that they could run out of food in a week, I thought to myself, "How can they, they have so much food here." Our first job at the warehouse was cleaning donation bins. That was kinda easy job because I clean the dishes at home everyday. When we were cleaning it was kinda gross because sometimes there were gross things in the bins and they didn't come off at first. After we finished cleaning the bins, we went to sort pasta. We went to the otherside of the factory and he gave us boxes to sort pasta into different shapes, type like wheat or plain and depending how they were packaged. After we finished working, I was really happy helping them out and I learned new things about Winnipeg Harvest that I never knew about.
Winnipeg Harvest-Make Manitoba Hunger Free 8-14
I Learned that 56 000 people use Winnipeg Harvest every month. Winnipeg Harvest is also a big part in Canada because Manitoba is the 3rd highest province that increase of food bank usage. It was really shocking to me to learn that some of the food that is thrown out from the warehouse is used to feed the animals in a farm an example would be expired bread. Also If Winnipeg Harvest stopped receiving donations it would be out food within 1 WEEK therefore Winnipeg Harvest needs to keep receiving food.
Who does Winnipeg Harvest Help?
Winnipeg Harvest helps people who can't get enough food for their daily lives. Winnipeg Harvest also helps Babies with some baby food and diapers. They also give out Basic Nutrition Kits that contain items from all the food groups. They give out 5 500 basic nutrition kits out of Winnipeg Harvest in a week/1000 days. You also might not know but 297 000 volunteer hours last year APPRECIATE AND VALUE VOLUNTEERS.
Where does Winnipeg Harvest get the food it supplies to its users?
Winnipeg Harvest get the food they distribute to it's users from their Bakery, some Supermarkets, Donations, Businesses and also even schools. Examples of where the donations are from would be Winnipeg Harvest Bakery, Superstore, Sobey's, Safeway, Lucky Supermarket and especially the donations coming from every kind people. The Agencies or Businesses that do help Winnipeg Harvest gave them loading trucks to make the process of giving the packages out easier. Donations are important to them because if they stopped receiving them the warehouse would be out of food within 1 week.
Top ten items that needed in Winnipeg Harvest are:
- Canned soup
- Canned poultry or fish
- Cereals
- Baby food
- Fruits (canned or fresh)
- Rice
- Whole wheat grain or pastas
- Canned stew, chili, and brown beans
- Loaves of bread
- Milk
When you volunteered what do you remember about your job?
When I volunteered in the Winnipeg Harvest I remembered looking at how much things they have in the warehouse. It was shocking that they also have things other than food like toothbrush, soaps and many more. In the warehouse we volunteered, by cleaning compost bins that would be used for trying to recycle most leftovers, although cleaning them was very hard with all the dirt on it. We also sorted pastas, rice packages and cereals. While we sort through them there were lots of pastas that was very hard to identify, one pasta I saw were pasta shells that were actual shaped shells. We really had a great time and I hope lots of people donate so they could help more people.

Winnipeg Harvest Visit- Make Manitoba Hunger Free 8-14
I learned how important Winnipeg Harvest is to many people and how big the part it plays in the community. To think, without Winnipeg Harvest many people would be left to starve, and without the countless and generous donations they receive, Winnipeg Harvest would be out of food within a week. Almost none of the donations are wasted. When they come across something they can not send or use they try to compose waste material and most of the leftovers, even sending some unusable bread to be sent to feed animals, such as horses.
2.Who does Winnipeg Harvest Help?
Winnipeg Harvest helps anyone who is in need of food. On average, 56 000 people use Winnipeg Harvest every month. Sad to say, half of the people are under the age of 18. While on my tour I could tell that the clients are very grateful to them when I saw a few lending the Harvest a hand. Behind each client is their story. Each have a reason for not having the money for food. Some being the need for medical attention, but do not have the money for both. Whatever it is Winnipeg Harvest will care to their needs the best they can, even making sure you get the nutrition you need through the basic nutrition kits.
3.Where does Winnipeg Harvest get the food it supplies to its users?
Winnipeg Harvest gets the food they supply from many generous agencies. Even the trucks they use were kindly given to them to help with the relocation of food. Many stores, other food banks, businesses companies and schools across the province help Winnipeg Harvest. Some examples being Sobey's, Superstore, Safeway, and of course, donations from the public. You may also find bins at Superstore and Safeway to drop off donations.
4.What are the top 10 items needed in Winnipeg Harvest?
The top ten items needed in Winnipeg Harvest are:
Canned fish and poultry
Canned fruit and vegetables
Canned stew, chili, brown beans
Peanut Butter (light)
Baby Food
Whole grain pasta/whole wheat pasta
Rice
Canned spaghetti sauce or tomatoes
Cereal
Canned soup
As you can see these are items anyone can get a hold of. All you need to do is go out and donate them. I know that they'll really appreciate it.
5. When you volunteered what do you remember about your job?
What I definitely remember the most was the vast amount of food they had. While touring I saw countless piles of pasta, bread, cereal and pretty much anything else you could imagine. Afterward I remember having to wash a bunch of bins. It was a bit gross, (especially the last bin I had to wash), and I almost fell into them countless times, but it was a great experience. I was glad to be of some help, and I'm sure they really appreciated it. While moving around the warehouse I found that the volunteers were really close to each other. Seeing them talk and joking around, and it was truly very heartwarming to see. Next was pasta sorting. It was not as easy as I had once thought. There were so many varieties of pasta, some that I've never heard of. I had a hard time deciding where I would place some, and just when I think I get it, I find a new kind of pasta. Luckily, I was assigned to label boxes instead. Our teamwork was great, and we managed to fill quite a few boxes. I really learned a lot from this trip to Winnipeg Harvest, and I was really happy to have come.

-I learned that Winnipeg Harvest has a big part in helping feed many people all around Canada. About 56000 people use Winnipeg Harvest every month and half the people under the age of 18 use food banks because they may need food or money for medical needs. 80 child care agencies are connected with Winnipeg Harvest, along with many stores, schools, and companies. If food stopped coming in, Winnipeg Harvest would be out of a food in a week!
2) Who does Winnipeg Harvest Help?
-Winnipeg Harvest helps anyone who needs them, really. They help children in child care agencies, people who go to food banks, schools, and anyone who calls and asks for their help. Winnipeg Harvest gives out about 5500 basic nutrition kits every week, and about 1000 a day. (These kits contain food from all the food groups.) Basically, Winnipeg Harvest helps anyone and everyone who needs them, and focuses on the health of children.
3) Where does Winnipeg Harvest get the food it supplies to its users?
-Winnipeg Harvest has many connections throughout Canada that help with the process of bringing food in and bringing it to where it's needed. Many stores, food banks, businesses companies and schools help Winnipeg Harvest. Some examples are bakeries, Sobey's, and donations from the public. (Safeway and Superstore have bins where you can drop off food).
4) What are the top 10 items needed in Winnipeg Harvest?
-The top 10 items needed in Winnipeg Harvest are:
Canned fish and poultry
Canned fruit and vegetables
Canned stew, chili, brown beans
Peanut Butter (light)
Baby Food
Whole grain pasta/whole wheat pasta
Rice
Canned spaghetti sauce or tomatoes
Cereal
Canned soup
5) When you volunteered what do you remember about your job?
-When I volunteered, we washed out bins so food could be taken to the places it needed to be. Sure it was wet and messy and I might have fallen into one of the bins, but it was fun. We also sorted pasta. This is a lot harder than it looks. There were thousands of different types of pastas, and it took a lot of effort and cooperation, but in the end, it too, was fun and worthwhile. Every job in Winnipeg Harvest has a reason and an important role, and I was glad to help out.

Length Width Height Volume
a)7cm 2cm 5cm 70cm3
lb)12cm 9cm 10cm 1080cm3
c)16cm 15cm 5cm 1200cm3
You can easily fill in this chart by simply asking yourself what multiplied by what equals the volume or creating an algebraic equation for each one. For example: a) 7x2=14, so 14xa=70m3, you replace the variable (a) with the number that best suits that equation which is 5. So thats how I figured out question 11.
16. Cindy’s aquarium stands 75 cm tall and
has a base that measures 1.2 m × 80 cm.
At one point during the initial fi lling, the
aquarium has a 12-cm depth of water in
it. Cindy needs to fi ll it to 15 cm from the
top before she adds the fi sh. Draw a
diagram and label the dimensions of the
aquarium. Determine how much more
water Cindy must add before she puts in
the fi sh.
Red=Math information
Scince you need a 15cm gap from the top you need to subtract 12 from 75 which is 63 and then you subtract 15 from 63 and you get 48. Now we have to find the volume of water we need to use in the tank.
V=lxwxh
v=120cmx80cmxh
v=9600cm2x48cm
v=460 800 cm3.
So Cindy needs to add 460 800cm3 of water before she adds the fish.

A contractor is excavating a rectangular
hole 10 m × 12 m × 3 m to pour the
foundation for a house. A dump truck
with a capacity of 9 m3 is used to haul
away the excavated soil. How many trips
does the truck need to make?
Find volume of rectangular hole:
V=lxwxh
v=10mx12mxh
v=120m2x3m
v=360m3
360m3/9m3=40m3
So the truck driver will have to make 40 trips.

Volume Problem
A concrete culvert that is 10 cm long has an inside diameter of 0.8m and an outside diameter of 1m. Determine the volume of concrete required to make the culvert to the nearest tenth of a cubic centimetre.
Outside Diameter
r=d/2
r=1/2
r=0.5m
v=πr^2 h
v=(3.14 0.5^2) 10m
v=0.785cm^2 10m
v=7.85m^3
Inside Diameter
r= d/2
r=0.8/2
r=0.4m
V=πr^2 h
V=(3.14 0.4^2)h
V=0.5024m^3
To find the volume subtract the inside diameter from the outside diameter.
7.85m^3-o.5024m^3=7.3476m^3
Now we have to convert meters into centimetres.
We can do that by multiplying 7.3476 by 100, and that equals 734.76cm^3.
So you need 734.76cm^3 of concrete to make the culvert.

Suki has 30 small linking cubes.
a) She wants to use 18 of them to make a large cube. Is this possible? Why or why not?
b) What number of linking cubes would she use to construct the largest cube she can possibly make?
Answers:
a) Suki can not make a large cube using 18 small linking cubes because 18 is not a cubed number.
Work:
1 x 1 x 1= 1³ Under 18 cubes
2 x 2 x 2= 8³ Under 18 cubes
3 x 3 x 3= 27³ Over 18 cubes
b) Suki needs 27 linkings cubes in order to make a 3 by 3 cubes in order to make the largest cube with a maximum amount of 30 small linking cubes.
Work:
1 x 1 x 1= 1³
2 x 2 x 2= 8³

volume of the rectangular prism = area of base x height
To find the area of the base = l x w
area of the base = 40cm x 24cm = 960cm²
Volume = Base x Height
Volume = 960cm² x 20cm
Volume = 19 200cm³
The total volume of the mini building blocks are 19 200cm³.
To find volume for 4 children you divide by 4.
19200 ÷ 4 = 4800cm³
Each of Mr.Chin's children will receive a volume of 4800cm³ building blocks.
