Paulo's Algebra Post

Variable - a letter that represents a number in an algebraic equation or expression
Constant - the integer in an algebraic expression or equation
Expression - pattern, many answers ex. 5x, 5x5
Equation - only has one answer, has an equal sign ex. 5x=25, 5x5=25

Steps:
1) Isolate the variable.
2) Cancel using the opposite of the number. ex. (+2)'s opposite is (-2)
3) Constant is cancelled with the zero pair.
4) Balance, do the same operation on the other side of the = sign.
5) Verify to check. (equality)

One Step Equations
x+2=2
x+[2-2]=[2-2]
x=0

Verify:
x+2=2
0+2=2
2=2

6=2x
6/2=2x/2
3=x

Verify:
6=2x
6=2(3)
6=6

Two Step Equations
7=4x+3
[7-3]=4x+[3-3]
4/4=4x/4
1=x

Verify:
7=[4x1]+3
7=[4+3]
7=7

2x+1=5
2x+[1-1]=[5-1]
2x/2=4/2
x=2

Verify:
[2x2]+1=5
[4+1]=5
5=5

  1. Paulo, WOW! This is your best post so far! I really liked your explanations and use of colour that didn't hurt my eyes. Next time I advise you to take clearer pictures because they were sort of hard to see.
