A Percent means out of 100. It is also another name for hundreths.
eg. 50% mean 50 out of 100 or 50/100 or 0.55

4.1 Representing Percents
-Representing percents mean showing a percent as a picture in a hundred grid.
eg. 50% on a hundred grid 50 squares would be shaded so it is 50%

4.2 Fractions, Decimals and Percents
-Percents can also be written as fractions and decimals.
eg. 1/2 % = 0.5%
0.5% = 0.5/100

4.3 Percent of a number
-Mental math strategies such as halving, doubling and dividing by 10 are ways to find the percents of a number.
-To Calculate the percent of a number, write then percent as a decimal and then multiply by the number.
eg. 12 1/2 % of 50 = 0.125 x 50 12 1/2% = 12.5%
= 6.25 = 0.125

4.4 Combining Percents
-Percent can be combined by adding to solve problems.
eg. 5% + 7%= 12%
-Increase of a number by adding the combined percent to ther original number.
eg.12% of 100 = 0.12 x 100 = 12
100 + 12 = 112
-Increase of a number by multiplying the original number by a single percent greater than 100.
eg, 112% of 100 = 1.12 x 100
= 112
